Forget the Gold Coast - The Top 3 Suburbs to Rent in Brisbane

Brisbane: A city that’s full of hidden gems. Whether you’re having a leafy walk across Kalinga Park or laughing at the Big Fork Theatre, this joint has it all. These hidden gems have resulted in a lot of Aussies wanting to rent somewhere in the Brisbane area.

But what are the best places to rent in Brisbane? What are their pros, what are their cons? And most importantly, what are the prices like? Let’s jump into the details.

Rocklea

Speaking of hidden gems, you should consider moving to Rocklea. This leafy suburb is quiet, peaceful, and perfect for those who want a laidback lifestyle. It’s also sprinkled with scrumptious cafes for those who enjoy a Sunday brunch or a coffee in the afternoon.

Rocklea is even touted on the internet for being an excellent place to live.

“My husband and I are in our 30s and have lived in Rocklea for two years now. We love it here!” One local wrote. “Our neighbours are so lovely and helpful, creating a real community feel. We love the local cafe and walking our dogs around the green areas, such as the Fauna Parade Park.”

However, before you start renting in Rocklea, it’s worth noting that some parts of it flood. So if you like a house, check if it’s flood-prone before signing a lease.

Compared to the rest of Brisbane, renting in Rocklea is exceptionally cheap. As of August, renting a two-bedroom house in Rocklea is a median of $513 per week.

Paddington

While Paddington wasn’t named after the bear, it’s just as cozy. Known for its charming, hilly streets, this suburb is lined with heritage Queenslander homes. What’s more, if you’re one for a nice stroll, Paddington has got you covered. This suburb has a vibrant cafe culture and is full of little boutiques.

According to Connor Hadwen, of Plum Property, Paddington would make a perfect home for almost anyone.

“Once a rough, working-class suburb, Paddington has become one of the most sought-after suburbs in Brisbane,” Connor said. “It has transformed into a local hot spot, with a thriving drinking, dining, and shopping scene. With a mix of young adults and families, this suburb is one of Brisbane's best suburbs.”

However, renting in Paddington isn’t the cheapest option out there. Renting a two-bedroom house in this suburb is a median of $650 per week.

Salisbury

Close to the city, great bushwalking, and excellent schools close by. What’s not to love about Salisbury? Better yet, Salisbury has its own vibrant culture. From its streets of Asian restaurants to Ballistic Beer Co, there’s plenty to do in this suburb. You can go months without needing to leave Salisbury for a feed.

“Salisbury is quiet, clean, with a great neighbourly spirit,” one resident wrote. “Really underappreciated cafes and restaurants.”

Another pro of Salisbury is that their rental prices are on the lower end. Their two-bedroom houses are a median of $550 per week.
